When we got this email to our inbox, we were a bit shocked, a bit sad... but then very excited - as The British Fashion Council has announced a new venue for London Fashion Week! Starting this September, for the 62nd edition of LFW, the fash pack will move from the cobbles of Somerset House to the urban setting of Brewer Street in the heart of Soho.
SEE WHAT WE WORE TO LAST SEASON'S LONDON FASHION WEEK
And just to add edgy kudos to this new central London, it's in a car park! Brewer Street NCP will host some of the world's biggest fashion editors - and the location fulfils the BFCs goal to host London Fashion Week in the West End, where there is close proximity to top notch shopping too - an added bonus.
Munira Mirza, Deputy Mayor for Education and Culture, said: "Brewer Street Car Park as the host venue is a brilliant development for London Fashion Week. With its position in Soho, it is at the heart of an area that has long been associated with fashion and creativity in general. I am sure the move will literally drive even more interest in one of the most important sectors for our economy."
Spanning two floors of the Brewer Street Car Park, the new central LFW venue will play host to some of the worlds most exciting designer catwalk shows in the BFC Show Space and the Designer Showrooms where over a hundred designers will exhibit their collections to an audience of UK and international press, buyers and stylists. The flexible space will also be used for LFW guest registration, a photographers area and press, buyer and sponsor spaces.
It's not the first time it's been used to showcase fashion though - House of Holland has already hosted Alexa, Pixie et al in the venue and last season, the BFC and British Council used the space to exhibit over 110 emerging fashion designers from nearly 30 countries as part of the International Fashion Showcase, the largest LFW exhibition that is free and open to the public.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FASHION WEEK - AND WHO WEARS WHAT
The fashion industry employs nearly 800,000 people and is worth £26 billion to the UK GDP - and to encourage awareness and get everyone involved, this seasons LFW showrooms, catwalk and event schedule will be accompanied by an exciting programme of free talks open to the public.
London Fashion Week takes place from 18 22 September 2015. The provisional schedule will be announced w/c 20 July 2015.
We've gotta say, we'll really miss the beautiful and historical Somerset House, which has housed LFW since 2009. Iconic pictures, the signature tents and the recognisable backdrop will be fondly remembered - although we probably won't miss trying to navigate those treacherous cobbles in 5 inch heels...
